About

Hello there, my name is Sam Mackulin and I'm an artist/illustrator based in Lancashire in the North West of England. I'm quite an eclectic maker and I like to explore all kinds of topics and subjects and characters, the humble pencil is often my best friend these days but I also enjoy working in ink, watercolour and sometimes tackle digital work too.
In 2024 my plan is to focus on zines, comics and narrative work, these are my main interests as an artist but they bring a whole load of new challenges and I plan to start small and build up my skills and confidence, one does not make a graphic novel overnight. I've started the year with sharing a new short zine with no words about a fox going home after a long day.

My work is going through quite a change at the moment as it has numerous times over the past few years since I decided to persue art. I'm a self taught artist and have no formal training, I have a degree in music but decided to persue drawing once I came back up North. My Nana first taught me to draw and inspired my love of drawing in ink and illustrative work, she is still one of my best supporters.

I want to encourage spontaneity in my work and try out different approaches but I also want to keep my work grounded in honesty and meaningful topics, especially in this ever changing and heavy world, I hope to bring some escape but also comfort to those who engage with my work whilst also highlighting important issues.

I value my connection to nature in the rural area I live in and care about protecting the environment I always try to keep my business materials as eco friendly as possible and continue to work on this.

If you'd like to work with me or contact me please see the contact me page and you can find me on Tiktok, Instagram and Facebook and I'm also glad to finally be making videos on Youtube too!

On there you will see I watch cartoons almost every morning, love going to the library, watch too much tv, do lots of puzzles, love a boardgame, love to get out in nature and go on walks, go to museums, learn more about one of my favourite interests like the mycelial network and eat plenty of biscuits.
