About


Hello there, my name is Sam Mackulin and I make art and comics, write and film my slice of life youtube videos from my little corner of Lancashire in North West England. 


I'm quite an eclectic maker and I like to explore all kinds of topics and subjects and characters, the humble pencil is often my best friend these days but I also enjoy working in coloured pencils, ink, watercolour and some of my projects are made or coloured digitally too. In the second half of 2025 I dealt with a long term illness that I'm only just recovering from as I write this (updating my website to reopen it in March 2026). This put my business and projects on hold and I am still slowly getting back to things, so thankyou for your patience! 



My main interests are narrative work like zines, comics or graphic novels, I started a sci-fi serial comic in 2024 called 'Toast in the machine' I see this being a project I continue for the long term and I hope will grow and improve as time goes on, I've never made a 'proper' comic before if I can even call it that, but I'm allowing myself to learn while doing and see where it goes. You can read this on webtoon and I hope to bring out a print of the first issue very soon.

An issue very close to my heart and found often in my work is raising awareness around struggles with mental illness and being autistic. I draw on many of my own experiences as someone who only found out they were autistic later in life and lives with the chronic company of anxiety and depression, I have also experienced OCD tendencies and breakdowns. I speak about this often in my youtube videos and like to reduce stigma around discussing these topics. 


I'm a self taught artist and have no formal training, I have a degree in music but decided to pursue drawing once I came back up North. My Nana first taught me to draw and inspired my love of drawing in ink and illustrative work, she is still one of my best supporters. 

 
I want to encourage spontaneity in my work and try out different approaches but I also want to keep my work grounded in honesty and meaningful topics, especially in this ever changing and heavy world, I hope to bring some escape but also comfort to those who engage with my work whilst also highlighting important issues. 


I value my connection to nature in the rural area I live in and care about protecting the environment I always try to keep my business materials as eco friendly as possible and continue to work on this.
